Even a small difference in top margin or horizontal pitch can shift text, barcodes, and borders onto the liner or across a die-cut edge.

Face Stock and Adhesive Are Separate Decisions

Paper face stock is a cost-effective option for dry, indoor applications such as cartons, office files, retail packaging, and short-term inventory identification. It prints well with laser toner and is suitable for many routine business uses. However, standard paper labels are not the best choice for applications exposed to water, oil, abrasion, freezer conditions, or extended outdoor light.

Film labels can offer improved moisture resistance, durability, and tear resistance, but printer compatibility must be verified. The material must be suitable for laser fuser temperatures as well as the required end use.

Adhesive selection should match the application surface and service conditions. Permanent adhesive is appropriate when labels must remain in place for the life of a product or asset. Removable adhesive is useful for temporary identification, promotions, and surfaces that need to remain clean after removal. Confirm Laser Printer Compatibility Before Ordering

Let stock acclimate to the production environment before use when it has been stored in a significantly different temperature or humidity range.

Set the printer driver to the actual sheet size and select the appropriate media type, such as labels, heavy paper, or thick stock when recommended by the printer manufacturer. Do not rely on an automatic paper-size setting. The driver, tray guides, and print file must all agree on the 13 x 19-inch format.

For die-cut layouts, use a template built for the exact stock configuration. Print one sheet on plain paper first, then place it behind an unused label sheet and hold both up to a light source. This simple check reveals whether text, barcodes, and graphic elements align with the label boundaries before production stock is used.
